Overview

The Titles section of your PostEngine settings page allows you to store custom titles to be used in your Craigslist ads. By default, PostEngine automatically generates randomized titles using bed/bath count, amenity, and location information from the unit/floor plan you are posting for. You can choose to add pre-written custom titles if you prefer to use your own.

Accessing the Custom Titles section

The Titles section can be found in your PostEngine settings. To access your settings:

If you're using the PostEngine Chrome extension -

  1. Open Google Chrome, click on the puzzle-piece icon in the upper right corner of the Chrome browser window.
  2. Click on the blue, PostEngine icon.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click Titles.

If you're using the PostEngine for Desktop application -

  1. Open PostEngine for Desktop.
  2. Click PostEngine Settings in the left-hand sidebar.
  3. Click Titles.

Custom Titles

The title of the post is what is shown to viewers in a search result. PostEngine will create titles for you by using floorplan information, amenities, and location information to feature in each title, but you can write and use your own by storing Custom Titles.

You have several options here:

1. On/Off toggle - You can toggle Custom Titles on and off using the toggle switch. The section will expand when turned on and collapse when turned off.

2. Alternate between the titles below and Rooof's titles (default) - Selecting this option will allow PostEngine to alternate between using your Custom Titles and PostEngine's auto-generated titles.

3. Rotate through my titles in the order below - Selecting this option will allow PostEngine to rotate through your Custom Titles in the order you have added them here.

4. Let me choose the title from the list below every time -  Selecting this option will allow you to choose from your Custom Title options each time you post an ad.

5. + Add Custom TitleClick this button to add your Custom Title. Type your title in the box that opens up. Repeat this step for each Custom Title you'd like to add. PostEngine will automatically save your changes as you go.

Note: Anything you store in your PostEngine Settings page including Custom Titles is unique to your specific installation. If you'd like to transfer your unique settings so that it's reflected on all of the computers in your office, see: Export & Import Settings

Pro Tips:

  • Title variation is important! If you choose to write your own titles, we recommend that you enter as many pre-written ones as possible so the posting tool has a large number of options to cycle through (we suggest aiming for at least 25 stored titles). If you frequently reuse the same titles, you may be at an increased risk of Craigslist flagging. To learn more, see: Craigslist Flagging & Ad Removal
  • A compelling and well-crafted title can make all the difference in attracting potential renters. When crafting your custom titles, be sure to highlight key features, utilize keywords, and be clear and concise. Avoid excessive punctuation or using all caps, as it may be registered as spam.

Troubleshooting

I added a Custom Title but now I want to edit/remove it.

To edit your Custom Title, click into the text box and make your changes. To remove your Custom Title, click the trash can icon next to the item you'd like to remove and then click Delete to confirm.

A Custom Title keeps showing up in my ads but it isn't saved on my settings page, where is it coming from?

By request, we sometimes store ad content in our system. Additionally, because the PostEngine Settings page is specific to each user, if your colleague is also posting for your property it is possible they are storing their own unique custom titles in their individual settings. If you're seeing a Custom Title in your ads and you don't know where it's coming from, our Support Team can help! Please reach out to us at help@rooof.com.

I post for multiple properties. Am I able to save different custom titles for each property?

Anything you save in your PostEngine Settings page will pull for ALL properties you post for. Unfortunately, you can't save different sets of custom titles to use automatically per property. However, you can store all desired custom titles there and select "Let me choose the title from the list below every time" and choose from the list of options each time.
